Kalesma

Mykonos Island, Greece

Why it made our list: Mykonos has no shortage of high-end hotels. Kalesma is the one that gets everything right. The views, the service, the rooms, the food, all of it, from every angle. Nothing here is left to chance.

At a Glance

A whitewashed collection of suites and villas on five acres of hillside in Aleomandra, the quieter western side of of Mykonos overlooking Ornos Bay and Delos Island. The property was designed to feel like a village: smooth-cornered walls, stone terraces, chestnut pergolas, 60-year-old olive trees, and bougainvillea threading through every path. The palette is earthy. Taupe, charcoal, dark wood, stonewashed linen. It is at once ancient and modern, and completely at ease with itself.

Nothing here starts small. The entry-level suite comes with a walk-in shower, a freestanding bath, an outdoor shower, an outdoor kitchen, and a private heated infinity pool. That is not the top category. That is where Kalesma begins. From there, the villas scale up with full kitchens, butler service, and gardens of their own, all the way to the seven-bedroom Leto Villa, which is less a room and more a private estate.

A spa with Dr. Barbara Sturm products, a fitness centre, and a holistic programme inspired by Delos three dining venues cover the day from late breakfast to sunset cocktails around a fire pit, with cooking rooted in Cycladic produce. Boat trips to Delos, weaving workshops, farm visits, cultural walks through Chora. Kalesma earns its price by giving you a Mykonos most people never see.

Our Take: Mykonos for people who want the island without the circus. Private pools, design led, incredible food, and a location that catches both sunrise and sunset. Couples and families alike.

Rooms We Love

Kalesma Suite Sea View with Private Pool

Nothing here starts small. A walk-in shower, a freestanding bath, an outdoor shower, a private heated infinity pool, and an outdoor kitchen, all as standard. 63 sqm indoors, 90 sqm of terrace. This is the entry-level room, and it sets a bar most hotels cannot reach at any tier.

One-Bedroom Villa Sea View with Private Pool

Everything the suite offers, with the added feeling of a private house within the village. A garden, more space, more privacy. The natural step up for anyone who wants room to breathe.

Apollon Villa

Three bedrooms, a private pool, a full kitchen, a gym, and butler service. For families or groups who want a home, not a hotel room. Can combine with the neighbouring Artemis Villa to create the seven-bedroom Leto Villa for larger parties.

Dining

Pere Ubu is the all-day restaurant. Cycladic cuisine using Mykonian produce, with the same pedigree as the owners’ Athens restaurants (Pere Ubu and Sea Spice).

Breakfast is à la carte and served until midday.

Kuveda handles relaxed mornings and casual meze.

Aloni Sunset Lounge serves signature cocktails around a fire pit as the sun drops into the Aegean.

Private dining and chef-led experiences can be arranged in-suite or in-villa.
