Daios Cove

Crete Island, Greece

Why it made our list: Daios Cove is for people who want to arrive, let go, and not think about logistics for a week. Resort lovers already know.

At a Glance

The first thing you see is the view. From the Belvedere at the top of the cliff, the whole cove opens up below you: turquoise water, a crescent of sand, the infinity pool catching the light, villas stepping down the rock. It looks like a rendering. It is not.

Two hundred and eighty-four rooms, suites and villas, terraced into the hillside across five levels. The scale is big, and Daios Cove does not pretend otherwise. What it does, very deliberately, is make the   bigness disappear. Three funiculars, club cars on call, paths that wind between levels through landscaped gardens. You move through the place the way you’d move through a village, except someone has thought   of everything in advance.

Every room faces the sea. Every single one. Suites and villas come with private heated saltwater pools, and the waterfront villas have their own paths down to the water. The range runs from 42 sqm rooms with a balcony to The Mansion at 600 sqm with its own spa, gym and staff quarters. The Collection, their newest tier, adds clinical-grade air filtration, hypoallergenic linens and a wellness minibar. There is   a lot to choose from here. Ask us and we’ll walk you through what fits.

Suite and villa guests are enrolled in the Residents’ Club, and this is where the stay changes gear. All-inclusive dining across seven restaurants, wine and champagne with every meal, cocktails by The Clumsies, in-room dining around the clock. The crèche takes babies from four months, the KEPOS by Goco spa runs to 2,500 sqm, and BXR London operates the gym. People come back to Daios Cove year after year.

The concierge greets returning families with “welcome home.” They mean it. That’s the difference.

Our Take: Everything is already taken care of. You just have to show up.

Some villas are a longer walk from the beach and restaurants.

Pool heating for suites is €79/day; free for villas and Collection suites.
