Domes Zeen Chania
Why It Made Our List: Ten minutes from Chania, a private beach, and a kids’ programme that means you can actually have the holiday you came for. The design is a bonus.

At a Glance
Lambs and Lions, the Berlin architects, designed Domes Zeen as a modernist village: low concrete structures softened by stone, grainy wood, rattan, and greenery so thick it feels tropical. The palette is earthy and warm without trying, somewhere between mid-century and brutalist, and the floor-to-ceiling windows in every room make the boundaries between inside and outside feel optional.
The beach is private and pebble, 50 metres from the hotel, with Chania’s old harbour just a short drive. There are two pools, one for adults and one for families, sit among the gardens.
The Soma Spa runs ELEMIS treatments in a proper indoor setting, while the Jungle Spa offers outdoor sessions under a canvas canopy surrounded by vegetation. The KiEPOS kids’ programme takes a Montessori approach: yurts, teepees, ceramics, gardening, painting, and the option of a sleepover under the stars. There are no mascots. There are no disco nights. There is, instead, a hotel that trusts its guests to set their own pace.
Our Take: A fantastically bohemian style family resort, filled with families who wouldn’t necessarily book a family resort.
Rooms We Love
Sea views, a private infinity pool on your terrace, and 46 sqm of space designed with the same stone, wood, and rattan found throughout the hotel. Part of the Haute Living Selection, which means half board and a dedicated concierge come as standard. Sleeps two adults and one child. 46 sqm.
A full bedroom, separate living room with sofa bed, bathroom with both shower and bathtub, and a private garden with its own pool. The most complete room on the property for families who want a sense of home. Part of the Haute Living Selection. Sleeps three adults and one child, or two adults and two children. 65 sqm.
Two bedrooms (king and twin), two bathrooms, a living room, and a private pool. The best option for families with older children who want their own space. Part of the Haute Living Selection. Sleeps up to five. 65 sqm.
