Agali

Paxos Island, Greece

Why it made our list: Paxos stone, Ionian blue, olive trees, no agenda, and a name that means “slowly, slowly.” It delivers on every count.

At a Glance

“Agali, agali” is how the locals say “slowly, slowly” on Paxos. The hotel took the phrase and built around it. Sugar-cube bungalows in native Paxos stone, scattered across olive and pine trees on a slope that spills into the Ionian. The design is retro-clean: whitewashed, pared back, nothing fighting for your attention. Renovated in 2024, but nothing here is trying to be glossy. The rooms have what you need
and not a thing you don’t.

A stone path leads down through the olive trees to a white pebble beach, where the water is that particular Ionian turquoise that photographs never quite get right. A saltwater pool sits among the pines
with a pool bar that runs from morning until midnight. There’s a herb garden they call the Bostani, where the kitchen picks what it needs for dinner, and some evenings they screen films outdoors under the
stars. The walk to Gaios takes fifteen minutes along the water. You come here to stop doing things. It works.

Our Take: Not a five-star resort and not trying to be. The beach, the retro bones, the olive trees, the quiet. If you’re looking to unplug and let Paxos do its thing, this is where you do it.
