Espera
Why it made our list: Sleek, new, and immaculately run, on an island where the loudest sound is still the ferry horn. Kimolos has never had anything like Espera. We’re glad it does now.

At a Glance
Eighteen suites on a hill above Kalamitsi, one of Kimolos’s best beaches, with the Aegean filling the view from every terrace. The architecture borrows from the island’s old Kastro: white cubic volumes, clean Cycladic lines, natural materials, and a colour palette that stays out of the way and lets the landscape do what it does. It opened in 2025 and arrived with the confidence of a place that knows exactly where it is and why it matters.
Kimolos is tiny, volcanic, and still largely unknown. Most visitors arrive from Milos on the morning boat and leave by sunset. Espera is the reason to stay. An infinity pool that drops toward the sea, three suites with private pools, and Amoni, a restaurant run by Chef Dimitris Dimitriadis that has already become the best table on the island. The owner is there, personally, making sure everything works. .
It’s just a six-min walk to two beaches, and a hilltop village called Chorio where the lanes are narrow and the cats outnumber the tourists. Kimolos at its pace, with somewhere worth coming back to at the end of the day.
Our Take: Warm service, Cycladic design, a hands-on owner, and an island that still feels like a secret. Walk to the beach, eat at Amoni, and let Kimolos do the rest.
Rooms We Love
The top category. 45 sqm with a private pool, expansive Aegean views, and the most space on the property. Sleeps up to three adults. The sunset from this terrace is the one.
A split-level family suite with panoramic sea views and a private patio. 35 sqm, sleeps up to four. The only room that works well for families.
28 sqm, couples-oriented, with sea views and a private terrace designed to catch the morning light. Simple, well proportioned, and enough.
Dining
Amoni Restaurant & Bar Mediterranean and Greek cuisine led by Chef Dimitris Dimitriadis, with a strong emphasis on organic, locally sourced ingredients from Kimolos. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant is also open to non-guests and has already earned a reputation as the best on the island. Cocktails at sunset are worth building the evening around.
Pool Bar Drinks and light bites through the day.
