Euphoria

Mystra, Peloponnese, Greece

Why it made our list: Greece’s first proper destination spa, and it happens to be at the foot of a Byzantine castle. Euphoria is not a hotel with a wellness programme. It is a wellness programme with a very good hotel attached.

At a Glance

Fourty Five rooms scattered across a forested hillside, directly below the UNESCO-listed ruins of the Byzantine citadel. The architecture draws
from that history: domed ceilings, earthy tones, ancient patterns in a modern hand. The building sits inside its own private forest, overlooking
a citrus valley and the Evrotas plain, with Mount Taygetus rising behind. Mountainous and wild.

The spa is the main event, spread across four underground floors. The Sphere Pool is the centrepiece: a subterranean, domed pool that feels like
stepping into another century. Or possibly another planet.

Around it, a Byzantine hammam, tepidarium, Finnish sauna, salt grotto, yoga and meditation hall, and an outdoor California hot tub facing the
valley. The wellness philosophy draws from ancient Greek, Chinese, and Ayurvedic traditions, built around a five-elements framework.
Programmes run from three to fourteen days — detox, stress recovery, yoga immersion — and nutrition is personalised through metabolic testing.
Both holistic and medical spa treatments are on offer. This is not token wellness.

Family-owned, adults only, and small enough to still feel cosy. There is something about the combination of the forest, silence, and the spa that
changes the way a week feels. We are probably underselling it.

Our Take: A serious wellness destination in an extraordinary Peloponnese setting. For travellers who want transformation, not just relaxation, and one more reason to visit mainland Greece.

Rooms We Love

Junior Suite with Forest View

Spacious, warm earth tones, living area, and a private balcony overlooking the hotel’s own forest. The most popular category for good reason.

Deluxe Suite with Valley View

Larger, with panoramic views across the Evrotas valley to the Parnon mountains. Balcony, living room, elegant bathroom. The view alone is worth the upgrade.

Superior Suite

The top category. The most space, the best position, and the kind of calm that makes leaving the room feel optional.

Dining

Gaia is the only restaurant, and it takes its role seriously. The menu is Mediterranean, organic, largely sourced from local Peloponnese suppliers and the hotel’s own vegetable garden. The cooking is healthy and nutritionally considered but still packs proper Greek flavour. Guests on wellness programmes receive personalised menus based on their metabolic profile.

A small lobby bar serves homemade herbal teas, smoothies, and a limited selection of snacks.
