Verina Astra
Sifnos Island, Greece
Why it made our list: Some places you visit; this one you surrender to. Verina Astra is a true sanctuary, the rare property where the view, the calm and the care all pull in the same direction, and you feel it the moment you arrive.

At a Glance
There are just sixteen suites at Verina Astra, each named after a constellation and set into the hillside above Poulati on Sifnos’ eastern coast. The interiors are earthy and softly layered, with stone, driftwood and rattan in muted tones, and the pace matches them: intimate, unrushed and far more than a boutique hotel, an experience in its own right.
Life here is lived outdoors. Breakfast arrives on your veranda, the morning drifts by the saltwater infinity pool that runs out to the cliff edge, and the evening ends under a sky free of light pollution, where the constellations the suites are named for appear clear overhead. Every terrace faces the open sea, and that is all the view needs to say for itself.
Aromatic gardens run between the suites, the pool and the Avra Spa, and the team knows Sifnos well enough to share it without being asked. Guests book a year ahead and return season after season, which tells you most of what you need to know.
Our Take: : This is Greek hospitality at its finest, with every detail looked after and none of it in your way.
